The collection exhibition of the Karakulit International Shadow Puppet Festival presents four puppet traditions:

The Javanese shadow play, wayang kulit, and the South Indian temple shadow play tholpavakoothu which are both part of the world heritage.

The puppet silhouettes representing the Chinese tradition are brought from their archives by the Taiwanese theatre performing at the festival, the Thang Hua Shadow Puppetry Troup.

The Karagiozis leather puppets, which are popular in Turkey and Greece and have a history dating back hundreds of years, cannot be left out of the collection exhibition.

Masterfully crafted, colourfully painted leather puppets await the audience of the exhibition. Be sure to bring a flashlight with you…

With the Karakulit International Shadow Puppet Festival and exhibition, we want to show that shadow play has been part of human culture and education for centuries, and its stories are still being told all over the world.
